Water waves- ripple tank

  • Lamp above tank of water, motor which makes ripples move from one end to another- ripples reflected underneath onto paper

  • Wave speed = frequency x wavelength

  • Count number of waves passing a point in 10 secondds. Divide by 10 to find waves in 1 second- frequency

  • Wavelength- take photo of 10 waves next to ruler. Then divide by 10.

  • Find speed with equation

  • Multiple waves- more accuracy, less random errors

  • Distance/time

Waves on a string

  • Vibration generator- strings vibrate

  • Speed of waves- use equation

  • Frequency- given frequency on frequency generator

  • Wavelength- ruler to measure length of wave- several loops, then divide by number of loops

  • More loops- improve accuracy- parallax errors- not viewing side on or perpendicular/in line
