1st Corinthians 3

Issues with Corinth

  1. Carnally focused

    1. They are characterized by their worldly mindsets

    2. Paul calls them babies in Christ

      1. Saying he has fed them milk, not real food, as they cannot handle real food (deeper christ teachings)

    3. Paul sees this in their envy and division and how they are acting like carnal men

    4. They are so focused on who they learned Jesus from rather than Jesus

      1. Paul and Apollos merely planted and watered, God increased

      2. Those who plant and water are one but each receive their own reward

    5. Christians work together as one but will receive individualized rewards

    6. Be careful on how you build a foundation in learning Christ

      1. Because what you build it with will be tested through fire

      2. Be it gold, silver, straw, or wood, it will all be put through the flames

      3. So make sure your foundation is built to last through such judgment

      4. Those whose homes endure will be rewarded

      5. Those whose homes burn may be saved but only if they themselves go through the fire

    7. The Church of Corinth is a temple of God as the Holy Spirit dwells within

      1. Anyone who defiles is has a right to be destroyed by the Lord

    8. Let no one deceive themself

      1. If someone of this world seems to be wise, let him be a fool so that he may become wise

      2. Because one who is worldly wise is foolish to God

      3. God catches the wise in their own machinations

    9. So don’t boast anywhere in men

      1. All is ours, we are Christ’s, and Christ is God’s
