1. cater for sb/sth - to provide a particular group of people with the things they need or want
2. shopaholic - someone who loves to go shopping and buys lots of things they may not need
3. marble - a type of hard rock that becomes smooth when it is polished, and is used for making buildings, statues etc
4. aromatic - having a strong pleasant smell
5. secluded - very private and quiet
6. demolish - to completely destroy a building
7. knowledgeable - knowing a lot
8. medieval - connected with the Middle Ages
9. copper - a soft reddish-brown metal that allows electricity and heat to pass through it easily, and is used to make electrical wires, water pipes etc.
10. bargain - something you buy cheaply or for less than its usual price
11. correspondent - someone who is employed by a newspaper or a television station etc to report news from a particular area or on a particular subject
12. glad - pleased and happy about something
13. fair price - the amount of money that it is reasonable to pay for shares, bonds etc
14. pickpocket - someone who steals things from people’s pockets, especially in a crowd
15. falcon - a bird that kills and eats other animals and can be trained to hunt
16. stationer’s - a shop that sells stationery
17. in bulk – in very large amounts (if you buy goods in bulk, you buy large amounts each time you buy them)
18. handkerchief - a piece of cloth that you use for drying your nose or eyes
19. pattern - a regularly repeated arrangement of shapes, colours, or lines on a surface, usually as decoration
20. linen - strong cloth that is woven from plant fibers
21. refund - an amount of money that is given back to you if you are not satisfied with the goods or services that you have paid for
22. announcement - an important or official statement
23. receipt - a piece of paper that you are given which shows that you have paid for something
24. trendy - influenced by the most fashionable styles and ideas
25. lace - a fine cloth made with patterns of many very small holes
26. stiletto - a woman’s shoe that has a very high thin heel
27. baggy - hanging loosely because of being too big or having been stretched
28. A-line – a skirt or dress that is narrow at the top and wider at the bottom
29. velvet - a type of expensive cloth with a soft surface on one side
30. polka dot - one of a large number of small, round spots that are printed in a regular pattern on cloth, etc.
31. wedge heels - shoes worn by women, with high heels that are a solid block from the front of the shoe to the back
32. turtleneck - a type of sweater with a high, close-fitting collar that covers most of your neck
33. peep-toe - used to describe shoes that show part of the big toe
34. tartan - a traditional Scottish pattern of coloured squares and crossed lines, or cloth, especially wool cloth, with this pattern
35. clove - a black spice (=something used to give a special taste to food) with a strong sweet smell
36. nutmeg - a brown powder made from the seed of a tropical tree, which is used as a spice
37. cinnamon - a sweet-smelling brown substance used for giving a special taste to cakes and other sweet foods
38. conduct - to carry out a particular activity or process, especially in order to get information or prove facts
39. flavour - the particular taste of a food or drink
40. overland - across land, not by sea or air
41. textile - any type of woven cloth that is made in large quantities – used especially by people in the business of making clothes etc
42. yarn - thick thread made of cotton or wool, which is used to knit things
43. weave - to make cloth, a carpet, a basket etc by crossing threads or thin pieces under and over each other by hand or on a loom
44. decompose - to decay or make something decay
45. fair - something that is reasonable and is what you expect or deserve
46. fragrant - having a pleasant smell
47. dedicated to sth - believing that something is very important and giving a lot of time and energy to it
48. syrup - a thick sticky sweet liquid, eaten on top of or mixed with other foods
49. treat - a special food that tastes good, especially one that you do not eat very often
50. on average - based on a calculation about how many times something usually happens, how much money someone usually gets, how often people usually do something etc
51. contest - a competition or a situation in which two or more people or groups are competing with each other
52. lookalike - someone who looks very similar to someone who is famous
53. maple - a tree which grows mainly in northern countries such as Canada. Its leaves have five points and turn red or gold in autumn.
54. pencil sb/sth <--> in - to make an arrangement for a meeting or other event, knowing that it might have to be changed later
55. district - an area of a town or the countryside, especially one with particular features
56. catwalk - a long raised structure that models walk along in a fashion show
57. descendant - someone who is related to a person who lived a long time ago, or to a family, group of people etc that existed in the past
58. well - a deep hole in the ground from which people take water
59. nerve-wracking - situation that makes you feel very nervous or worried
60. rickshaw - a small vehicle used in South East Asia for carrying one or two passengers. It is pulled by someone walking or riding a bicycle.
61. maze - a complicated and confusing arrangement of streets, roads etc
62. alleyway - a narrow street between or behind buildings, not usually used by cars
63. heap - a large untidy pile of things
64. turmeric - a yellow powder used to give a special colour or taste to food, especially curry
65. hostile - angry and deliberately unfriendly towards someone, and ready to argue with them
66. purse - a small bag in which women keep paper money, coins, cards etc
67. striped - having lines or bands of colour
68. checked - with a pattern of squares formed by lines of different colours crossing each other
69. plain - not decorated in any way; with nothing added
70. floral - made of flowers or decorated with flowers or pictures of flowers
71. fitting room - an area in a shop where you can put on clothes to see how they look
72. on offer - for sale for a short time at a cheaper price than usual
73. patterned - with a design made from repeated lines, shapes, or colours on the surface
74. rent - to pay money for the use of something for a short period of time
75. hire - to pay money to borrow something for a short period of time
76. dear – expensive
77. deposit - a part of the cost of something you are buying that you pay some time before you pay the rest of it
78. date back to sth - to have existed since a particular time in the past
79. carry sth <--> out - to do something that needs to be organized and planned
80. pottery - objects made out of baked clay
81. flip - to move something with a quick sudden movement so that it is in a different position
82. have a sweet tooth - to like things that taste of sugar
