characteristics of these hazards

these characteristics will depend on various factors such as;

  • magnitude- (scale) of the hazard, this will dictate the level of preparedness of the area and the measures taken to prevent a disaster. This will also depend on if the country is an HIC or and LIC.

  • frequency- this will also dictate the level of preparedness of the country, as the more frequent the event happens the more likely the country will be prepared

  • duration- the longer the duration the more it will effect the magnitude of the damage done.

  • areal extent- how large the are of the hazard is.

  • spacial concentration- how far the area of the hazard is

  • speed of onset- how fast the hazard was set into motion= quick speed onset = larger impact and more damage.

  • regularity- how random the hazard is, if the hazard is more frequent the more prepared the country will be and the less damage will ensue.
