What is Publisher?

  • Microsoft Publisher 2013: A desktop publishing program for making various publications.

    • Creates business cards, greeting cards, calendars, newsletters, etc.

    • Uses Microsoft Office Toolbar instead of the Ribbon.

  • Includes templates for business needs: business cards, brochures, address labels, and calendars.

  • Options to mail, export, or publish online.

Publisher 2013 User Interface

  • User Interface: Tools and menus organization.

    • The Ribbon:

      • Divided into Tabs, Groups, and Commands.

    • Quick Access Toolbar: Contains frequently used commands like "Save".

    • File Menu: Access file-level actions like create, open, save, print, etc.

    • Title Bar: Displays program and document name.

    • Help Menu: Access to articles on using the software.

Publisher Organization Tools

  • Tools for organizing content:

    • Baselines: Horizontal lines for aligning text.

    • Boundaries: Dashed borders around objects for alignment.

    • Rulers: Help align text and objects.

    • Guides: Lines for alignment; can be margin or customizable.

    • Scratch Area: Displays objects outside printing area (won't print).

Save Your Work

  • Importance of saving frequently:

    1. Click the green File Button.

    2. Select Save As.

    3. Choose the folder and name the file, then save.

Working With a Publication

  • Page Layout Size: Standard paper size 8.5”x11”.

  • Orientation: Choose between landscape and portrait.

  • Margins: Manage blank spaces along document edges.

Adding Pictures to Slides

  • Steps to insert pictures:

    1. Click Insert Tab.

    2. Select "Online Pictures".

    3. Search and insert desired image.

Creating a Publication from a Template

  • Steps to create a business newsletter:

    1. Select New in Backstage View.
