Natural Numbers

Natural Numbers are ordinary counting numbers.

The letter N is used to label the set of natural numbers.

0 is not a natural number.

Prime numbers

Natural numbers that only have two factors ; 1 and themselves.

Composite numbers have more than two factors.

Commutative, Associative and Distributive Properties

An operation is commutative if a change in the order of the numbers does not change the result.

Subtraction and division are not comutative.

An operation is associative if a change in grouping does not affect the result.

Subtraction and division are not associative.

The distributive property says that multiplication distributes over addition and subtraction.

Integers

An integer is a positive or negative whole number.

Zero is an integer.

Two integers are opposite if they are the same distance from zero on the number line.

Positive x Positive = Positive

Positive x Negative = Negative

Negative x Positive = Negative

Negative x Negative = Positive
