Graphs of Motion

typical speeds for travel:

  • walking~1.5m/s

  • running~3m/s

  • cycling~6m/s

The gradient of a distance/displacement-time graph gives you the speed/velocity.

speed or velocity (m/s) = distance or displacement (m) / time (s)

v=d/t

The gradient of a speed/velocity-time graph gives you the acceleration.

acceleration (m/s²) = change in velocity (m/s) / time (s)

a=v/t

The area under the graph gives you the displacement.
