Science: Digestive and Excretory Systems

Event: Science Quiz #1 is officially scheduled for the next class meeting.

Maltase: An enzyme associated with the breakdown of maltose into simpler sugars.

Definition: Homeostasis is defined as the physiological process of maintaining a stable internal environment within a living organism.
Regulatory Mechanism: This stable state is actively maintained and controlled by negative feedback systems, which work to counteract deviations from an established set point.

Definition of Excretion: Excretion is the biological process by which a system removes used-up materials that are no longer needed after critical physiological processes have been completed.
Biological Waste Examples: Materials classified for removal include:
- Old cells that have reached the end of their lifecycle.
- Damaged cells that no longer function correctly within the tissue.
