Professions in health and fitness 


Group exercise instructor

  • Leader of exercise classes 

  • Kin or other health related degree 

  • Certified by a nationally recognized org 

  • Knowledgeable with dynamic and leadership 



Fitness specialist 

  • Or health fitness instructor 

  • Not refered to as exercise psychologist bc it refers to a uni instructor 

  • Conducts fitness assessments and designs exercise programs that incorporate strength and fitness to get long term results 

  • Kin or health degree w certification 



Health and wellness coach

  • New career option 

  • Requies min of bach degree in kin or another health degree 

  • Helps other change their lifestyle to something more healthy

  • Teaching behavior change, stress management, relax, weights, and exercise 

  • Broader than a personal trainer 


Personal trainer 

  • Bach or master in kin or another health degree 

  • Certified 

  • Artist of the health and fitness profession 

  • Works independently or employed at a facility 


Health and fitness director 

  • Bach degree in kin, may require graduate degree 

  • Experience as health n fitness counselor or personal trainer 

  • Visionary who keeps current w field of health and fitness 

  • Manages facility service n programs. Hire n traines and provides staff 



Specialty positions 

  • Many health and fitness settings incorporate specialty positions 

  •  Physical therapist, athletic trainer, sport coach, dietician 

  • Graduate education or additional qualifications 


Public health oriented careers- more growth in the last 2 decades of public health careers
