fungi (protists)
A small group that reproduces using spores
Tend to live in damp, wet positions.
Belong to Phylum Gymnomycota
Heterotrophic meaning they eat /hunt to
survive
Has cell walls but don’t contain chitin, they
contain cellulose.
Slime molds are also called myxomycota.
Slime molds live in moist soil and have two types (plasmodial and cellular.)
Plasmodial ones feed of decaying plant matter like a fungus
Cellular ones feed off living bacteria and other microorganisms found in decaying things.
A plasmodial slime mould is enclosed within a single membrane without walls
A plasmodial slime mold is one large cell
A plasmodial slime mold( super cell) is a bag of cytoplasm containing thousands of nuclei.
The cellular slime molds go through most of their life as an individual unicellular organism.
When a chemical signal is secreted they assemble into a cluster that acts as one organism.
