Introduction to Charts
• Charts visually represent numerical data, aiding in data comparison and pattern recognition.
• Excel provides tools to create different types of charts, including column charts, line charts, and pie charts.
Types of Charts
• Column charts compare item values, such as recycling rates.
• Line charts show changes in values over time, such as temperature changes.
• Pie charts show the contribution of each item or group to the total amount.
Creating Charts in Excel
• To create a chart in Excel, select the data to be used for the chart.
• Click on the Insert tab, Charts group, and select the type of chart you want (Column, Line, Pie).
• Click on the type of variation you want, and the chart will be inserted.
Editing Charts
• To add, change, or remove chart elements, edit the chart.
• Watch the video "CreateChart" to learn how to create a column chart.
• Open the spreadsheet MyFirstCharts and recreate the two charts demonstrated in the video.
• Study the chart and answer questions related to the chart type and the general term used for each part of the chart.
Selecting Cells Not Adjacently
• Select the first group of cells and hold down the Ctrl key to select the next group(s) of cells.
• Select only the data needed before inserting the chart.
