Russian Cases- Dative

Dative

Nouns

• masculine and neuter nouns with a hard stem will take the ending -у
  • e.g. стол - столу
• masculine and neuter nouns with a soft stem will take the ending -ю
  • e.g. трамвай - трамваю
• feminine nouns ending in -а or -я will take the ending -е
  • e.g. рыба - рыбе
• feminine nouns ending in -ия will change to -ии
  • e.g. партия - партии
• feminine nouns ending in -ь will remove the soft sign and add -и
  • e.g. роль - роли
• all plural nouns will take the endings -ам/-ям
  • e.g. стол - столам

Adjectives

• masculine and neuter adjectives will take the ending -ому/-ему
• feminine adjectives take the ending -ой/-ей
• plural adjectives take the endings -ым/-им

Possessives

• masculine and neuter possessives take -ему
• feminine possessives take -ей
• all plural possessives will take the endings -ым/-им
