Types of Reservoirs
Types of Reservoirs (HAE)
Human Reservoirs
1. Transmission of Diseases
Diseases transmitted person to person without intermediaries include (SMMSR):
Sexually transmitted diseases
Measles
Mumps
Streptococcal infections
Respiratory pathogens
2. Types of Carriers (AICC)
Asymptomatic or healthy carriers: Infected individuals who show no symptoms.
Incubatory carriers: Can transmit the agent during the incubation period before clinical signs appear.
Convalescent carriers: Individuals who have recovered but can still transmit the pathogen.
Chronic carriers: Persistent harboring of pathogens (e.g., Hepatitis B virus, Salmonella typhi).
Animal Reservoirs
Diseases transmitted animal to animal, with humans as incidental hosts.
Zoonosis: Infectious diseases transmissible under natural conditions from vertebrate animals to humans.
Environmental Reservoirs (PSW)
Plants, soil, and water serve as reservoirs for infectious agents.
