1. Inspection of Seatbelts
- Responsibility: Assist the Radio Motor Patrol Operator in inspecting seatbelts.
- Action: Inform Radio Motor Patrol Operator of any deficiencies found.
- Documentation: Record findings in the digital Activity Log.
- NOTE: Report seatbelt deficiencies to the Patrol Supervisor.
2. Front Seat Protocol
- Placement: Ride in the front seat of the radio motor patrol car, except in specific situations (e.g., transporting a prisoner, emotionally disturbed person) where no fiberglass partition is present.
- Safety Belt Usage:
- Wear three-point safety belts when provided.
- Wear two-point safety belts (lap belts) if three-point safety belts are not available.
- Utilize a safety belt extender when a three-point safety belt is hard to engage due to space constraints. - Safety Note:
- Members of the service not wearing safety belts face an increased risk of significant injury.
- Wearing a safety belt reduces the extent and severity of injuries and saves lives during vehicle collisions.
- Requirement: All individuals operating/riding in Department vehicles or authorized private vehicles must wear safety belts.
- Safety belts can only be removed in potentially dangerous tactical situations where retention may impair police action.
3. Notification of Non-Members
- Requirement: Notify radio dispatcher of any non-member of the service (e.g., prisoner, complainant, witness, abandoned child, emotionally disturbed person).
- Information to provide:
- Time of entry into the RMP (Radio Motor Patrol)
- Gender of the person
- Beginning mileage. - Upon Arrival: Notify the dispatcher of:
- Time person exits the RMP
- Ending mileage - Search Requirement: Conduct a search of the passenger area of the RMP for contraband, weapons, or property after concluding the trip.
- Digital Activity Log Entries: Document the following:
1. Time trip starts
2. Identity of the person being transported
3. Location of the beginning and end of the trip
4. Purpose of the trip
5. Results of vehicle inspection.
4. Operation of the Radio
- Action: Operate the radio as needed.
5. Recording Radio Messages
- Requirement: Record in the digital Activity Log all radio messages directed to the car.
- Entries to include:
- Time
- Location of the call
- Type of case
- Additional Entries: Include all other required entries as per Patrol Guide 212-08, "Activity Logs."
- Disposition Requirement: Enter the disposition of each call and the time of completion.
6. Transmitting Disposition
- Action: Transmit the disposition or interim disposition to the radio dispatcher immediately after completing the assignment and before leaving the scene.
- If Necessary:
- Transmit interim disposition if required to move to another location related to the current assignment.
- Notify the desk officer about the disposition of assignments from the command or other significant assignments.
7. Reporting Delays
- Action: Notify the radio dispatcher if encountering any undue delay in response to a radio message.
8. Report Preparation
- Responsibility: Prepare all necessary reports and records related to police actions taken together with the operator while serving as recorder.
9. Radio Inoperability Notification
- Action: Notify the desk officer if the radio becomes inoperative.
10. Minor Repairs Approval
- Action: Obtain permission from the radio dispatcher before placing the R.M.P. auto out of service for minor repairs.
11. Assignment Notification
- Responsibility: Notify radio dispatcher of all assignments, including pickups not emanating from the Communications Section.
- Details to Provide:
- Location of assignment
- Nature of assignment.
12. Vehicle Key Management
- Responsibility: Carry a duplicate set of keys for the vehicle to which assigned for the entire tour of duty.
