Steps

  • NADH & FADH2 donate electrons to ETC becoming NAD+, FAD

  • electrons move through protein complexes, pumping H+ into intermembrane space

    • creates an H+ concentration gradient

  • oxygen acts as an electron acceptor and combines with e- & H+ to form H2O

  • protons (H+) flows back through ATP synthase

  • ATP is produced from ADP + Pi
