Ch. 1 & 2 Study Guide Notes

Chapter 1: Vocabulary

  • Alleluia — “praise God”

  • synagogue — place of prayer & worship for Jewish people

Chapter 2: Vocabulary

  • grace — our share in God’s life

  • Gospel — the written Good News that Jesus saved us

  • rite — words and actions of a sacrament

  • sacrament — sacred signs in which we meet Jesus and receive a share in God’s life

  • liturgy — the Church’s public worship

  • Liturgy of the Hours — the official daily prayer of the Church; also known as the Divine Office

Why we worship God

  • He created everything & everyone!

  • He gave us life!

  • He is great & good!

  • He is all-powerful & all-loving!

  • Note: be able to write one or two of these points

The 3 categories of Sacraments

  • 2. Sacraments of Healing

  • 3. Sacraments at the Service of Communion

  • Sacraments at the Service of Communion:

    • 6. Matrimony

    • 7. Holy Orders

When we honor God above everything we worship Him

  • The greatest act of worship is the Eucharist.

The 4 Gospels in the Bible

  • 1. Matthew

  • 2. Mark

  • 3. Luke

  • 4. John

Scripture practice

  • Using a Bible, be able to find a passage in Scripture and copy it word for word, just like we practiced in class. The passage will be from one of the 4 Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke & John).
