Deep Dive: Patient Banner Elements

  • Always persists at the top while navigating.

  • Data fields enumerated by instructor:

    • If the patient uses a preferred name different from the legal name, the system will display the preferred name prominently.

    • Age (auto-calculated from DOB) and gender.

    • Indicator flag if the patient self-identifies with a gender different from that assigned at birth.

    • Preferred pronouns (shown adjacent to demographic fields).

    • Date of birth (DOB) in full format.

    • Unique patient ID (medical record number / MRN).

  • Visual alerting system:

    • A yellow banner or icon signals a Chart Alert (special cautionary information). Clicking it opens the alert details.

Chart Alert (Yellow Indicator)

  • Purpose: Draws attention to critical information (allergies, special precautions, legal alerts, etc.).

  • Location: Embedded within the patient banner, appears as a yellow-highlighted alert area or icon.

  • Interaction: Selecting or hovering reveals the full alert content for review.

Quick Orientation Recap / Practical Tips

  • Always verify you are in Clinician View; otherwise, feature set may be limited.

  • Use multiple identifiers—DOB, MRN, last-4 SSN—to confirm patient identity before opening a chart.

  • Become familiar with the four persistent UI hubs (Banner, Tabs, Briefing, Actions) for efficient chart navigation.

  • Pay immediate attention to any yellow alert icon to avoid missing critical patient information.
