Navigating to the Correct User View
Starting point: Home page.
Step-by-step guidance:
Click on the username drop-down.
Confirm you are in the Clinician View (ensures access to full clinical chart features).
Selecting the Example Patient (Mimi Parker)
Search flow:
Open patient search box (top banner search field).
Enter last name ("Parker").
Result list appears; select the correct entry.
Helpful ID cues in search results:
Date of birth (DOB)
Patient ID number
Last four digits of Social Security number
Links visible in the search card:

High-Level Chart Layout (Once Inside a Patient Chart)
Four key UI regions are called out:
Patient Banner (horizontal bar at the top of the workspace)
Chart Tabs (vertical list running down the left-hand side)
Patient Briefing (central panel / dashboard)
Actions Menu (small purple square icon, typically top-right corner of the content area)
Deep Dive: Patient Banner Elements
Always persists at the top while navigating.
Data fields enumerated by instructor:
If the patient uses a preferred name different from the legal name, the system will display the preferred name prominently.
Age (auto-calculated from DOB) and gender.
Indicator flag if the patient self-identifies with a gender different from that assigned at birth.
Preferred pronouns (shown adjacent to demographic fields).
Date of birth (DOB) in full format.
Unique patient ID (medical record number / MRN).
Visual alerting system:
A yellow banner or icon signals a Chart Alert (special cautionary information). Clicking it opens the alert details.
Chart Alert (Yellow Indicator)
Purpose: Draws attention to critical information (allergies, special precautions, legal alerts, etc.).
Location: Embedded within the patient banner, appears as a yellow-highlighted alert area or icon.
Interaction: Selecting or hovering reveals the full alert content for review.
Quick Orientation Recap / Practical Tips
Always verify you are in Clinician View; otherwise, feature set may be limited.
Use multiple identifiers—DOB, MRN, last-4 SSN—to confirm patient identity before opening a chart.
Become familiar with the four persistent UI hubs (Banner, Tabs, Briefing, Actions) for efficient chart navigation.
Pay immediate attention to any yellow alert icon to avoid missing critical patient information.
