Page 1: Introduction and Components of Split Air Conditioner

Aim

  • Assemble split air conditioner.

Prior Concepts

  • VCR Cycle.

  • Components of VCR System.

  • Working and function of various components of split air conditioner.

New Concept: Air Conditioning

  • Definition: Simultaneous control of temperature, humidity, cleanliness, and motion of air for human comfort.

Split Conditioner

  • Comparison to Window AC:

    • Contains a compressor, condenser coils, expansion device, evaporator, and ventilation fan.

    • Outdoor Unit:

      • Components: compressor, condenser coils, condenser fan, fan motor, expansion device.

    • Indoor Unit:

      • Components: evaporator coil, blower, air filter, control panel.

    • Even though units are separate, they work together using copper coils for effective cooling.

    • Has multiple unit boxes that operate with the thermostat managing the entire system.

Process of Operation

  • Outdoor Unit:

    • Refrigerant pressurized by the compressor, heated gas travels through coils converting to liquid.

    • Liquid moves through the outdoor unit’s condenser coil to the expansion joint, resulting in low temperature and pressure.

    • Low temperature refrigerant absorbs heat in the evaporator (indoor unit), converting liquid back to gas, which returns to the compressor.

  • Indoor Unit:

    • Draws air from the room, passes it over the evaporator to cool it.

    • Blower circulates cold air until the set temperature is achieved. The system shuts off automatically at this point.

Page 2: Steps for Setting Up

Stepwise Procedure

  1. Setting up the Indoor Unit:

    • Choose unobstructed location for mounting.

    • Secure mounting plate to wall.

    • Drill a 3-inch hole for pipes.

    • Verify electrical connections.

    • Run pipes and cables through the hole and connect to the unit.

    • Secure indoor unit to mounting plate.

  2. Installing the Outdoor Condenser:

    • Position away from dust, heat, or traffic.

    • Lay a concrete pad.

    • Secure outdoor unit on pad.

    • Check electrical wiring.

    • Connect piping and cable.

  3. Completing the Installation:

    • Bleed air and humidity from the refrigerant circuit.

    • Affix piping with clamps.

    • Seal hole with expanding foam.

    • Power on and enjoy cool air.

Components of Split Air Conditioner

  • Indoor Unit:

    • Front Panel, Air Inlet, Air Filter, Blower, Air Outlet, Air Flow Louvers, Display Panel, Drain Hose, Evaporator, Remote Controller.

  • Outdoor Unit:

    • Connecting Cable, Refrigerant Piping, Stop Valve, Compressor, Air Cooled Condenser, Condenser Fan, Capillary Tube, Insulation.

Page 3: Visualization of Components

  • Identified parts include:

    • Air inlet and Air outlet.

    • Diagrams illustrating placement and functionality.

Page 4: Installation Guidelines and Maintenance

  • Guidelines for Installation:

    • Ensure clearance of 12 cm (4.75 in) or more around units for air circulation.

    • Specific measurements for drain lines, refrigerant lines, and electrical lines.

  • Maintenance:

    • Suggested practices include cleaning air filters and front panel regularly.

    • Switch off power supply before cleaning.

Page 5: Customer Guidance and Installation Instructions

Customer Requirements

  • Provide suitable power supply: voltage range must be 90-110% of rated voltage.

  • Power supply circuit should include MCB leakage protection.

  • Require independent circuit and suitable grounding.

Indoor Unit Installation Instructions

  • Install away from heating and steaming sources, maintain good air circulation, and ensure no obstacles.

  • Maintain necessary distances from ceilings, walls, and furniture, at least 2 meters off the floor.

Outdoor Unit Installation Instructions

  • Ensure firm fixing against strong winds. Use a cement base as specified.

  • For coastal or high places, install against a wall to maintain fan operation and use blocking plates as needed.
