Study Notes on Social Work Values and Ethics

What are Values?

  • Definition of Values:
Values are like the things we think are important or special. They help us decide what we like and what we want to do. For example, if you think being kind is important, it will guide how you treat other people.

What are Ethics?

  • Definition of Ethics:
Ethics are like the rules we follow about what is right and wrong. They help us make good choices, especially when things get tricky.

  • Why Models are Important:
In social work, which is about helping people, we use special methods, called models, to help us make decisions. These models are like maps that show us the best way to solve problems when things are confusing. They help us think carefully before we act.

  • Differences Between Values and Ethics:

    • Values are what you think is good for yourself, like sharing or playing fair.

    • Ethics are what is right or wrong for everyone, like following rules at school. They help us know how to act in a good way that everyone can agree on.
