Clean Air Act

-Regulates air emissions to protect public health + environment.

-Established National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) for pollutants like ozone and carbon monoxide.

-Controls emissions of hazardous pollutants

Clean Water Act

-Prevents water pollution in the nation by setting water quality standards.

-Regulates discharge of pollutants into US water and requires permits for point source pollution

CITES

-Protects endangered species from exploitation.

-Regulates international wildlife trade through permits. 

CERCLA (Superund)

-Created a federal program to cleanup hazardous waste sites.

-Holds polluters financially responsible for cleanup

Montreal Protocol

-An international treaty to phase out ozone-depleting substances like CFCs.

- Led to the recovery of the ozone layer. 

Kyoto Protocol

-International agreement committing industrialized nations to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. 

Endangered species act

-Protects endangered and threatened species and their habitats.

-It prohibits harming, killing, or harassing listed species 

Safe Drinking water act (SWDA)

-Ensures safe public drinking water by setting and enforcing quality standards.

-It oversees water suppliers and requires public notification when contamination occurs.

Delaney clause of food, drug and cosmetic act

-Part of the 1958 Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act,

-it bans the use of any food additive shown to cause cancer in humans or animals.

-It enforces a zero-tolerance policy for carcinogens in processed foods

Resource conservation and recovery act (RCRA)

-Regulates hazardous and non-hazardous waste from creation to disposal.

-It encourages waste reduction, recycling, and environmentally friendly disposal practices.
