The study of Social Science begins with the fundamental understanding of the term 'Society'. The word is derived from the Latin term 'socius', which literally translates to 'companionship' or 'association'. This etymological root highlights the inherently relational nature of human structures. Within the broader field of Social Science, various disciplines focus on specific aspects of human life and the environment. Geography, for instance, primarily examines the complex relationship between human beings and their physical environment. Economics, another core pillar, centers its focus on the production, distribution, and consumption of resources, analyzing how societies manage scarcity and prosperity.
Social Science is not merely an academic exercise but carries a mission to promote vital core values, particularly in a diverse democratic country like India. Methodologically, Social Science differs fundamentally from the Natural Sciences. While Natural Sciences often rely on laboratory-controlled experimentation and predictable physical constants, Social Science must deal with the inherent unpredictability of human behavior and the intricate complexity of social relationships. For a researcher to effectively study multifaceted social issues like widespread poverty or unemployment, an integrated approach is required. This implies combining historical, geographical, economic, and political perspectives to gain a holistic understanding of the problem. Political Science, or Civics, is the specific branch of Social Science that explores the functioning of political institutions. Geomorphology: The Earth's Interior and Surface Processes
The physical structure of the Earth is divided into several layers, the outermost and thinnest of which is the Crust. The shaping of this crust is a result of various forces and processes. Endogenic forces are those that originate deep within the Earth's interior and are responsible for bringing sudden structural alterations to the surface. The continuous, slow movement of large rigid pieces of this crust is explained by the scientifically accepted Theory of Plate Tectonics.
