industrial Design:

Description: Celebrates the team that demonstrates industrial design principles, striking a balance between form, function, and aesthetics. 

Guidelines:

  • A team must be able to describe how their robot is elegant, efficient (simple/executable), and practical.

  • The entire machine design, or the detailed process used to develop the design, is worthy of this recognition, and not just a single component.

  • The robot distinguishes itself from others by its aesthetic and functional design.

Strategies/Points:

  1. Simple:

    1. Picks up coral off ground -> hands off to arm -> scores coral

    2. Picks up algae off ground with arm claw -> scores algae

    3. Picks up algae off reef with arm claw -> scores algae

    4. Very rudimentary hand-off that requires little movement

    5. * 3 step process

  1. Efficient, Elegant, Purposeful/Robustness:

    1. Reiterate simplicity briefly

    2. Smooth movements, arm is able to turn around as much as needed 360*

    3. Every part has a purpose, coral ground intake has a pivot to extend out of the robot and lift the coral to the arm to hand it off

  1. Modular:

    1. The elevator is easy to adjust for the size of the central carriage

    2. Central carriage has a pivot in order to angle the arm

  1. Custom Machining:

    1. All of the parts in the carriage are customly machined by us in a small amount of time

  1. Redesign:

    1. We completely redesigned the robot from what it was at Magnolia Regional

    2. We were able to simplify the design and integrate a ground coral intake into our preexisting belly design

    3. We thinned the elevator so that we could add a sideways pivoting arm rather than a forward pivoting arm (scoring to the side vs scoring to the front)

    4. Created one mechanism for scoring coral and algae and integrated floor algae intaking into said mechanism to defeat the purpose for the floor algae intake

    5. Removed distance sensors that adjusted the robot during auto scoring to account for the coral’s place inside of the intake, it now can only have ONE location/place inside of the intake (claw)
