Volleyball Notes

*Volleyball was invented in Holyoke Mass 1895, as a low impact

recreational game.

*The object of the game is to hit the ball over the net legally in such a way

that the opposition cannot return the ball back over the net.

*Play starts with a serve, from the back row.

*Side out is referred to when the serving team fails to score or plays the

ball illegally.

*The serving team rotates clockwise before a new server serves.

*Foot fault is when the server steps on the boundary line.

*3 hits are allowed, no twice in a row.

*Catching the ball is illegal.

*Last point scored is game point.

*Play rally points scoring system.

*Blocking at the net is to deflect the ball back onto the opponent's side of

the court.

*Double fouls are fouls committed by both teams.

*Dead ball is a play declared over after a point is scored.

*Volleyball etiquette is rolling the ball not throwing the ball and to call out

the score before each serve.

*In PE class games= No Spiking, No Head Butting, No Kicking and No

Punching the ball!!

*Incorporate in volleyball games your volleyball knowledge, skills,

strategies and team play of the game!

*Play nicely with each other (Team play) and Keep everyone Safe!

*Skills- Over the shoulder serve, Underhand serve, Bump pass and

Overhead set pass.
