Orders to the Sentry

  1. Take charge of this post and all government property in view.

  2. Walk my post in a military manner, keeping always on the alert and observing everything that takes place within sight or hearing.

  3. Report all violations of orders I am instructed to enforce.

  4. Repeat all calls from posts more distant from the guard house than my own.

  5. Quit my post only when properly relieved.

  6. Receive, obey, and pass on to the sentry who relieves me, all orders from the commanding officer, command duty officer, officer of the deck, and officers and petty officers of the watch only.

  7. Talk to no one except in the line of duty.

  8. Give the alarm in case of fire or disorder.

  9. Call the officer of the deck in any case not covered by instructions.

  10. Salute all officers and all colors and standards not cased.

  11. Be especially watchful at night and during the time for challenging; challenge all persons on or near my post and allow no one to pass without proper authority.

Uniform and Hair Regulations

Male
  • Hair:

    • Tapered upwards and outwards.

    • No more than ¾ inch in length.

    • Must not touch the collar.

  • Mustaches:

    • Must not extend below the upper lip; neatly trimmed.

  • Sideburns:

    • Neatly trimmed; should not extend below the middle of the ear.

Female
  • Hair:

    • Must not be below the collar.

    • Bun: 2 inches in length and 3 inches in bulk.

    • Single braid, French braid, or single ponytail may extend up to 3 inches below the collar.

  • Cosmetics:

    • Must blend into natural skin tone and must be applied in good taste.

NSU Nametag Regulations

NSU Ribbons Regulations

NSU Rank/J-Bar Regulations

  • Rank: Centered 1 7/8 inches from the tip of the right collar.

Garrison Cap/Cover Regulations

NJROTC Shoulder Patch Regulations

  • Academic: ¼ inch centered above J-Bar.

Medals Regulations

  • Positioned ¼ inch below the top of the left pocket, centered immediately below ribbon, arranged by seniority.

  • Order: 1) Academic Competitions 2) Marksmanship 3) All others prescribed by NSI.

  • May only be worn on NSU and SDB.

  • Leadership Academy cord worn on right side; all others on the left side (one per shoulder).

Neckties Regulations

  • Ties must be no more than 3 ¼ inches wide and hand tied.
