WHY IS HE IMPORTANT?

  • Early medical practice of bloodletting = early form of phlebotomy.

  • Introduced the idea that the body contained four humors:

    • Blood

    • Phlegm

    • Yellow Bile

    • Black Bile

→ Doctors believed balancing these humor could treat illness.
