Overview and timeline of social policies related to family:
There are five areas affected by social policy in relation to family:
1) Women’s rights/protection of women - e.g. 1969 Divorce Reform Act
2) Children’s rights/protection of children - e.g. 1989 Children Act
3) The care of the elderly - e.g. social care such as care homes
4) LBTQ+ rights - e.g. 2013 Same Sex Marriage Act
5) Welfare of families - e.g. means-tested benefits
liberalism = allowing choice and diversity
interventionism = trying to control family life
