May: Estates-General convenes  

23th-27th June: The Royal Session, the National Assembly is created, from July it is known as the Constituent Assembly 

14th July: Storming of the Bastille 

15th July: Lafayette becomes commander of the National Guard 

July-August: The Great Fear- Uprisings were reported in every province of France, the violence was triggered by rumours that the nobility were gathering militia forces to suppress the peasantry and overturn the revolution 

2nd November- nationalization of Church land 

Later in the year, after the Constituent Assembly was forced to move to Paris, the Jacobin Club was formed 

The August Decrees 4th-11th August  

A series of decrees abolishing many privileges of the nobility 

1790 

The Cordeliers Club is founded 

1791 

Legislative Assembly 

17th July- Champ de Mars massacre, 60 demonstrators killed and a further 200 arrested 

August- The declaration of Pillnitz  

By the end of 1791, 3000 officers had fled France 

1792 

20th June Journée, 8000 sans-culottes incited by the cordeliers club 

25th July- Brunswick manifesto 

10th August Journée- Attack on the Tuileries, palace defended by 1000 Swiss Guard loyal to King Louis 

September- The September Massacres, at least 1400 people were killed
