Effects of Medications and Foods on Urine Color
Anticoagulants: May cause blood in urine, leading to discoloration.
Diuretics: Increase urination; urine may become pale (not clear as water).
Perimetem: Used for bladder spasms; can turn urine orange or orange-red.
Vitamin C & Beta-Carotene: Foods like sweet potatoes and carrots can cause orange-colored urine.
Liver Disease: Can alter urine color.
Antidepressants (e.g., amitriptyline) & B-complex vitamins: May result in green or bluish-green urine.
Medications like L-dopa: Can cause brown or black urine.
Fava Beans: Known to affect urine color.
Antibiotics & Laxatives: Can cause darker brown urine.
Important Note
Any urine color outside of pale yellow to straw to yellow should be investigated to determine if there is an underlying issue, although some changes can have normal explanations.
