Working memory model
Working memory model - Baddeley and Hitch
- Focuses on workings of short term memory
- Important for reasoning learning and comprehension
4 parts :
- Articulatory-Phonological loop: Inner voice process language to convert to a phonological state - Inner ear holds auditory speech information & the order of which it as heard
- Central executive: Manages attention and controls information from the 2 slaves stores
- Visuospatial-spatial sketchpad: temporarily retains visual and spatial information
- Episodic buffer: Facilitates communication between the entrar executive and LTM
Strengths:
- provides explanation for parallel processing
- Based on evidence from a laboratory experiment so confounding variables are controlled (results can be replicated)
Weakness:
- unclear what central executive is too vague
- Low eco-logical validity
