pre-SSP
Spring semester
Positives:
Happy with course structure
Enjoy speaking opportunities in class, the more conversational/debate aspect is better than last semester
Negatives:
Grammar heavy (I would personally disagree)
Too reliant on the textbook and lessons are too textbook-based; not enough room to develop ideas or freely converse; when a student is struggling, we don’t seem to have enough time to go over the difficulty and go straight back to the textbook
Suggestions for improvement:
more resources for vocabulary (we do have the vocab list in the textbook, but I think it would be useful to have the English translations provided; or more useful phrases) → Quizlet has an AI feature that provides the translation and conjugations; Conny suggests looking at the texts in the textbook alongside the vocab list (printed off and annotate as you go) or the slides
MLANG "quatschen" outside of university e.g. in a cafe. Maybe also tips from older students, like a Q+A drop in. → Friday socials (mainly made up of a small group of 2nd years)
Assessments:
Students use the briefs and feel confident using them
One student suggested “Perhaps including a starting point for research/how to plan effectively for the assessment.”
Attendees:
Guy (1st Year, Beginner)
Emily (2nd Year, ex-Advanced)
Paula (Final Year)
Theo (Final Year and Chair)
Next events:

MLANG celebration event on the 15th April → poem reading?
German Society hike on the 10th May (Sunday) (date might change)
