Blood Vessels
Blood vessels are tubelike structures that transport blood to and from the heart and to various tissues in body.
There are 5 Types of Blood Vessels found in the body:
1. Arteries
↪ Is a thick-walled muscular, flexible tubes that carries the oxygenenated blood away from the heart to the arterioles where it’s the delivered to the capillaries throughout the body.
The largest artery in the blood is the aorta: the arteria trunk that carries blood away from the heart to be distributed by branch arteries through the body.
2. Arterioles
↪ Are small arteries that deliver blood to the capillaries throughout the body.
3. Capillaries
↪ Are thin, tiny walled blood vessels that connect the smaller arteries to the venules. Capillaries bring nutrients to the cells and carry away waste materials.
4. Venules
↪ Small vessels that connect the capillaries to the veins. They collect blood from the capillaries and drain it into the veins.
5. Veins
↪ Thin- walled blood vessels that are less elastic (flexible) than arteries. They contain cup-like valves that keeps the blood flowing in one direction and to prevent back-flow flowing backwards).
Veins carry blood (containing waste products) from various capillaries back to the heart and lungs for cleaning and to pick up oxygen.
