American Revolution
1. French and Indian War- war between Britain and France to control the Ohio River valley and the fur trade, the war left Britain in debt so they started imposing taxes.
2. Proclamation of 1763- the natives wanted to go to war against the britis bc they had been settling in native lands. Great Britain issued this document to avoid a war with the Native Americans. It established that the colonies could not settle west of the Appalachian mountains.
3. Sugar Act- a tax imposed on raw sugar nd molasses, also established taxes on silk, coffee and indigo.
4. Currency act- parliament banned the use of paper money in the colonies bc it tended to lose value.
5. Stamp Act- was the first direct tax over the colonies. Taxed most printed materials. Every printed material must carry a stamp.
6. Revenue Act- one of the Townshend acts, imposed taxes over several products (glass, paint, lead, paper paint and tea imported by the colonies). The violators had to face trials in a vice admiralty court. Legalized the wrist of assistance.
7. Boston Massacre- the incident in which British soldiers killed 5 civilians because they were protesting against the Townshend Acts. After this to avoid a revolution they eliminated most Townshend acts.
8. Boston Tea Party- 150 colonists dressed as Native Americans, dumped the tea into the Boston harbor.
9. Coercive Acts- laws issued by Great Britain to punish Massachusetts for the Boston Tea Party

10. Lexington And Concord- were the places where the revolution started. 80 minutemen waiting in Lexington but British forces were too strong.
11. Declaration of Rights and Grievances- a document drafted by the first continental congress to fight the coercive acts
12. Olive Branch Petition- Document issued by the 2nd Continental Congress to find a peaceful solution for the situation in Massachusetts.
13. Common Sense- a pamphlet written by Thomas Paine to promote the idea of independence. He attacked the king and not parliament.
