Self Awareness Study Guide

Quantum - A discrete bundle of energy; the lowest denomination of energy or other physical quantities that can be exchanged.

Material Realism-

  1. Primacy of Matter- Matter exists independent;consciousness is secondary or illusory

  2. Objectivity- Observers don't affect reality; everything exists “out there.”

  3. Determinism- The universe runs like a machine with predictable laws.

  4. Locality- Nothing can influence anything else faster than light; everything is separate

  5. Epiphenomenal Mind- The mind is just a byproduct of the brain and has no real power.

Consciousness-The ground of being that manifests as the subject that chooses, and experiences what it chooses, as it self-referentially collapses the quantum wave function in the presence of brain-mind awareness.

Awareness- The “space” of the mind in relation to which objects of consciousness, such as thoughts, can be distinguished.

Mind- The organization and functions of the brain at the macro level, including the as-yet uncharted quantum macrostructure that accounts for the mind's nonlocal characteristics.

Brain-computer comparison- Brain is not like a computer because the brain works with quantum possibilities and is influenced by consciousness.

Body- Describes the body as the “manifestation instrument” for consciousness.

Reality-All that is the case, including both local and nonlocal, immanent local, immanent aspect of reality.

Maslow’s Hierarchy-  Uses this to show humans aren't just biological survival machines.

-People experience creativity, intuition, and nonlocal awareness which cannot be explained by materialism

Cognitive Dissonance-

Inner conflict that happens when our ego-based conditioning clashes with deeper awareness

Material vs. Self-discovery-

Material view: You are just atoms and condition; all behavior is mechanical

Self-discovery view: Your consciousness exploring itself through experience.

Predictability of Motion

Classical physics says motion is predictable.

Quantum physics shows that at small scales, events happen only as probabilities. Observation changes the outcome. The unpredictability leaves room for choice, creativity, and free will.

Pavlov and no free will- Materialists use Pavlov to say humans are stimulus-response machines.

Goswami says condition exists, but consciousness can override it. Free will isn't an illusion -  it comes from the quantum level where choices are made.

Essence of Truth- Truth isn't just facts, its what remains when illusion and conditioning fall away.

What counters the mind as a machine?

Quantum choice, creativity, insight and intuition, discontinuous leaps in thought.

What do machines lack that humans have?

Qualia(subjective experience), free choice, nonlocal awareness, creativity, meaning-making.

Anomalies-Things materialism can't explain: remote viewing, near death experience, quantum nonlocality, sudden insights or intuition.

Light- energy- He uses light to show the mystery of duality, both a wave and particle until consciousness collapses it. Light is a symbol of how potential becomes actual.

How can we measure electrons? Contain them?

Measuring changes the electron, electrons don't exist as things until observation collapses their wave function. They are measured by their properties.

Electron Firefly story

To see it you shine a light but doing so changes what it does. That is how quantum particles behave, observation affects existence. When you see it exists.

Fireplace- tanning story

Energy influences matter nonlocally or indirectly- like how sitting by a fire warms you without touching. Or how sunlight tans skin across space. This shows that matter isn't solid and separate. Different frequencies.

What creates existence?

Consciousness choosing from quantum possibilities creates existence. Matter does not generate mind, mind generates matter through observation.

Mysticism

Mystics experience the unity behind appearances. Their insights align with quantum nonlocality and consciousness as the ground.

Schrodinger’s cat

The cat is both dead and alive. Reality is not fully real until experienced.

Ying-Yang all religions explanation

Opposites are complimentary. Most religions point to this unity of duality just like quantum paradoxes do.
