Henry VII

Henry Tudor became Henry VII after his victory in the battle of Bosworth against Richard III. He was a Lancaster from his mother’s side so he married Elizabeth of York, daughter of the rival family, to make peace with them. He was a new king, from a new dynasty and he became king after a century of wars and hunger so he needed to strenghten his power quickly. He gave some lands to the aristocrats who were in his favor and built a fleet, which was essential because England is an island. Henry VII had two sons and a daughter. He married his first son and heir Arthur to Catherine of Aragon, daughter of the Spanish king to make an alliance with Spain. He also married his daughter Margareth to the king of Scotland. Unfortunately, Arthur died young and beforehis dad’s death so when Henry VII died in 1509, Henry VIII, Henry VII’s second eldest son, became king.
