Fiber Optic Basics
Fiber optic cable carries data using pulses of light rather than electrical signals.
Instead of electricity flowing through copper wires, a laser or LED sends light through a glass fiber.
Because light is not affected by electromagnetic interference (EMI), fiber provides several major advantages over copper.
Advantages
Much faster transmission speeds
Can travel much longer distances

Excellent for high-speed backbone networks

Single-mode fiber uses one beam of light traveling through a very thin core.
