American Revolution
Lexington and Concord :: The first battle of the American Revolution, the start of it all. The shot heard ‘round the world. Americans formed a wall formation in front of marching British soldiers, they stood in front of each other, tense, until someone shot.
Battle of Trenton:: Christmas day. First big win for the continental army. Led by George Washington. Floated across ice river and attacked at dawn. Continental army gains supplies and morale and captured Hessians.
Valley Forge:: A main base where Washington’s army stayed in the winter. Were hungry and cold without food/clothes. ¼ dies from malnutrition, cold, or disease. Army stayed together, which built love for America. Baron Freidrich von Steuben trains troops.
Battle of Saratoga:: A series of battles in which England repeatedly loses. Convinces France to join America in the war. Turning point in American favor.
John Paul Jones vs HMS Serapis:: John rams into the Serapis, after 3.5 hours the main mast of ship falls. Shows that they can have success in the navy. Father of American navy.
Battle of Cowpens:: American army splits up, British army corners part of American army, the rest of American army attacks from behind. It’s a turning point for the war in the south, where they had been constantly losing. This is big win for south.
Battle of Yorktown:: America and Franch take cannons into Yorktown and force Cornwallis to surrender. One of the last major battles. Shows America’s power with French help/supplies.
\ George Washington:: 1st US President. Major leader in American revolution. Got first major wins. Cared for his army.
John Locke:: Came up with the natural laws of life liberty and property/pursuit of happiness and that people will only consent to a government who protects citizen rights. Ideas were used in Declaration of Independence. Philosopher whose core ideas are a base for the foundation of America.
Benjamin Franklin:: Helped write Declaration of Independence.
John Adams:: Helped write Declaration of Independence. Lawyer for British Soldiers after the Boston Massacre. 2nd US President.
Thomas Jefferson:: Helped write Declaration of Independence.
Sons of Liberty:: Everyone affected by the stamp act. Fights against British control.
Samuel Adams:: Organized the British Tea Party. Leader of Boston Sons of Liberty.
Paul Revere:: Warned the continental army of the incoming soldiers before the battle of Lexington and Concord. Made the art of the British Massacre.
