Multiplication Madness: Fun with Times Tables (1-12)

Introduction – Times Table Warm-Up (5 minutes)

Total Time: 5 minutes

Start with a short rhyming chant to engage students with multiplication facts (e.g., "Two times two is four, clapping hands and tapping feet to the beat"). This activity will help activate their prior knowledge and get them ready to participate. Students will each share their favorite times table fact to generate excitement.

Core Activities – Multiplication Relay Race (10 minutes)

Total Time: 10 minutes

Organize students into small teams. Each team stands in a line. The first student of each team runs to a station where a multiplication problem (e.g., 4 x 3) is displayed. They must solve it and then tag the next teammate, who runs to the next station with a different problem. This continues until all the problems from 1-12 have been solved by their team. Use flashcards for visual reinforcement. Incorporate technology by allowing students to use tablets with a multiplication quiz app for additional practice during their turn.

Assessment – Times Tables Bingo (5 minutes)

Total Time: 5 minutes

Hand out bingo cards featuring multiplication results from 1-12. Call out multiplication problems (e.g., "6 x 4"). Students cross off the products on their cards. The first student to get a line of crossed numbers calls out 'Bingo!' This fun, interactive assessment allows you to evaluate their understanding in a game format.
