Mixture Classifications
- Homogeneous Mixture / solution: A well stirred mixture (e.g., sugar and water) that is uniform throughout, such as being equally sweet in the first and last sip.
- Heterogeneous Mixture: A mixture where substances (e.g., sand particles) are easily visible in the water and settle over time.
Components of a Solution
- Solute: The substance that gets dissolved within a mixture.
- Solvent: The substance that dissolves the solute.
- Example: In a salt and water mixture, salt is the solute and water is the solvent.
- Proportion: Maintaining the right proportion of solute dissolved in a given amount of solvent is essential when preparing a solution.
