How to LEQ

Last thing you have to do, 40 minutes to write

Step 1) Read prompt and really analyze it and look for 3 things

  • Mark time period they give you

    • Ex: 20th century write out 1900s

  • Write out the historical thinking skill they want

    • Ex: Causation or change, etc

  • Mark Categories they give you to write

    • Economic developments, social, political, etc

Step 2) How to score full points

  • Thesis: Thesis must make a argument, like you must take a stand. Then show how you’re going to defend your argument, name them

    • Formula: [Restate important part of prompt] because [A] and [B]

    • A and B are the specific pieces of evidence

  • Contextualization: Explain the events leading up to the thesis, do this before your thesis.

    • One paragraph 3-4 sentences that sets the stage. Dont go to far back ( 50-100 years)

    • Use specific evidence, like name it and connect it, then make sure its relevant. Dont be general

  • Evidence: Name and connect and describe atleast 2 pieces of evidence

    • write a topic sentence

  • Analysis and Reasoning: use the historical reasoning to frame and structure ur argument

  • Complexity point: Use atleast 4 pieces of evidence, use 2 pieces that support ur evidence then use 2 pieces that refute it but then explain why the 2 pieces that support ur evidence are weighted heavier.
