Chapter 1: How to Approach Your AP Physics Course
Ignore your Grade
- Don’t ask the teachers or professors if a test will lower your grade or how much points you will need to get a better grade
- This will give the teacher merely what he or she wants, and it will not benefit you in AP physics
- The AP tests is what tests your knowledge
- Focus on the physics work and you will pass
- Never spend more than 10 minutes on a problem without getting anywhere
- Put the problem away and take a break
- Start from scratch when coming back to the problem
- Asking the teacher for a solution is a way to allow yourself to enlighten
- Developing this mentality of “don’t bang your head against a wall” is very important for exam day
- It will help prevent distractions
- Your goal is to earn credit for the exam, not to stress
- Earn half of the points and you are sure to earn a qualifying score
# Work with people
- Form study groups or develop a team in class to have discussions
- Group study is permitted and encouraged virtually every physics class
- You should still spend time on your own solving problems
- You must learn to think for yourself, and your teacher is helping you develop the analytical skills you need for success
- Do not give up due to poor performances on test, continue to keep trying
