Other Senses
- Beyond vision and hearing, other sensory systems include: skin, chemical (smell, taste), kinesthetic, and vestibular senses.
The Skin Senses (Cutaneous Senses)
- The skin is the body's largest sensory system.
- It contains receptors for touch, temperature, and pain.
Touch
- Touch detects mechanical energy, or pressure against the skin.
- Examples of detected pressure include the lifting of a single hair or the pressure of a car seat.
