C. MANIA, DELIRIUM and HYPERACTIVITY (GS)

I. General Measures (PAREUA/PMPCSC)

1. Protect the patient from physical injury (LBF)

   • Lock screens

   • Bar windows

   • Remove furniture

2. Avoid mechanical restraints

3. Reassure the patient

   • Use a calm, quiet manner

   • Avoid strange sensory stimuli

4. Ensure a controlled environment

   • Silence should not be absolute

5. Utilize support from relatives and friends

6. Administer CNS depressants (anxiolytics, sedatives, hypnotics)

   • Only if necessary for symptom control and management.
