Conversion factor and equation set up

Goal:
Be able to use conversion factors to convert data

Must know Conversions
1000 units = 1 kilo-unit
1 unit = 10 deci-units
1 unit = 100 centi-units
1 unit = 1000 milli-units
1 unit = 1,000,000,000 or 109 nano-units
A units is any SI base unit like: gram, liters, meter
Kilogram is actually the base unit for mass

Set up Conversion Factor
Always start with the gicen
Draw a times and a line (X--------------)
Place units first- “bury” the old, unwanted unit on the bottom, the new unit is on top
Insert numbers from the conversion factor w/ the appropriate units
Repeat 3&4 if it takes multiple steps to get to the desired unit
Do math using one of these 2 methods
Multiply all numbers that are on top, then divide by the number(s) on the bottom
Solve for each fraction then multiply them together
Make sure units and sig figs are correct in the final answer
