In the New Testament, Pentecost was the occasion of the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the Apostles and other followers of Jesus Christ. It is considered the birthday of the church because Pentecost is when the apostles went out among the people and began spreading Jesus' message, thus establishing the beginning of the Church.
