CH. 3 History 

Indentured Servant- Sm1 who agreed to work for  4-7 yrs in exchange for passage to America. Instead of wages they were provided food, housing, and clothing. 

Middle Passage- the boat used to take the slaves from Africa to the americas. 

Triangular Trade- Trade route was established by Europe, colonies, and Africa

Slave codes- were passed by colonial assemblies & gave yt owners absolute authority clever their slaves. 

Magna Carta-  limited the king's ability to the english soldiers and guaranteed the right to trial aka habeas corpus aka due process

Habeas Corpus- says that you can’t be jailed w/o being charged w a crime. 

Mercantilism- 1 person or nation can only grow rich at the expense of another

Navigation Acts- series of laws that said only England ships w English sailors could trade w English colonies.

Enlightenment - a movement headed by thinkers who believed all problems could be solved by human reason. 

Great Awakening- mid 1700s; Emphasized starting anew “salvation” in relation of God

Staple Crop- crops that are already in demand. Tobacco was an example.

Cash Crop- crops grown for sale

French and Indian War

Pontiac's Rebellion- tribes raided the Ohio River Valley and captured the British first. They wanted to lure the french back to North America

Proclamation of 1763- order settlers to remain east of the Appalachian Mountains.
