Ethics in research

  • Put yourself in respondents shoes

  • Do not offend or embarrass participant in any way

Consent is primordial, inform respondents of what you are doing

3 elements to consider in all research:

  • Privacy

    • Choose location wisely and protect the respondents who take part in your research

  • Confidentiality

    • Protecting the information gathered from respondents from the public (release data in %)

  • Anonymity

    • Gathering info efficiently, aiming to prevent the identity of respondents to be known, research is not to be discussed in public or private circles (use a code instead of names)

  • Research must be based on knowledge of the work of others (Lit Review)

  • Benefits of the research project substantially outweighs the potential harm to participants

  • Participants must be able to make a voluntary, informed decision to participate and have the freedom to withdraw

  • Research is a public activity, conducted openly - transparency
