Semicircular canals maintain equilibrium. The tongue uses taste buds (gustatory cell receptors) for five tastes: sweet, sour, bitter, salty, and umami. Saliva is required for chemicals (tastants) to initiate taste (gustation).
Eye disorders include ptosis (drooping), hordeolum (stye), conjunctivitis (pink eye), and glaucoma (high intraocular pressure). Macular degeneration results in loss of central vision, with dry ( of cases) and wet (leaking blood) forms. Refractive disorders include myopia (nearsighted) and hyperopia (farsighted).
