FPH (REPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM)
gonads - primary sex organs
testes in males, ovaries in female
gonads produce gametes (sex cells) and secret hormones.
sperm - male gametes
ova (eggs) - female gametes
somatic
cells that are distributed all throughout the body (soma)
dipliod (46)
mitosis
gametes
aka sex cells/reproductive cells
concentrated mainly in the reproductive tract
haploid (23)
meiosis
testes
connected to the trunk via spermatic cord which houses: blodd vessels, nerves, ductus deferens
interstital cells in the seminiferous tubules produce andogens such as testosterone
coverings of the testes
tunica albuginea - a hard capsule that surrounds each testis
septa - extensions of the capsule that extend into the testis and divide it into lobules
duct system - transfort sperm from the body, it includes the EDU:
— epididymis
highly convoluted tube (6m / 20 ft long)
found along the posterior lateral side of the testis
first part of the male duct system
temporary storage site for immature
sperm mature as they journey through the epididymis
during ejaculation, spem are propulled to the ductus deferens
RWPRODUCTIVE SYSTEM HJWHASHJSAJAS E PINRACTICAL EXAM
— ductus (vas) deferens
runs from he epididymis via the sprmatic cord through the inguinal canal and arches over the urinary bladder
ampulla - end of the ductus deferens, which empties into the ejaculatory duct
ejacultory duct - passes through the prostrate to merge with urethra
moves sperm by peristalsis (wavelike structure that propel the sperm) into the urethra
ejaculation - smooth muscle in the walls of the ductus defrens create peristaltic waves to squeeze sperm forward
vasectomy - cutting of the ductus deferens at the level of the testes prevents transformation of sperm (form of birth control)
— urethra
