Mixed methods
who were their target population, and did they manage to achieve their representative sample?
their target population where undergraduate students. they did manage to represent this sample but not very well for instance the sample ranged from the ages of 18 to 55 however, 91% of the sample were ages 18-21.
why were mixed methods used?
they used mixed methods to gain a higher validity in their research. they used a questionnaire which consisted of 30 short, mainly closed questions. this allows them to gain a large amount of data quickly and effectively therefore raising validity. they also used face to face interviews, these are beneficial as they allow the interviews to elaborate on their point of view meaning the research can be more valid.
define the concept of respondent validation and explain how it is helpful in increasing validity.
is a process in qualitative research where the researcher shares their interpretations or findings with participants to ensure the accuracy and authenticity of the data. it increases validity because the researcher is able to make sure that the respondents answers are correct and that they have understood them correctly.
who can the findings be generalized to?
the findings can be generalised to the differences in men and women’s ideas towards gaming and the differences in how many people game in relation to their age but also their IQ level.
are there any ethical issues with the research carried out by Crawford and Gosling?
no.
explain the concept of triangulation and give evidence from the source to explain what this means.
triangulation is a research strategy that uses multiple methods, theories, data sources, or researchers to study a single phenomenon. The main goal of triangulation is to enhance the credibility, reliability, and validity of research findings by addressing potential biases or limitations that might arise from relying on only one method or perspective.
