Secondary Assessment - Trauma
In order of Head, Neck, Chest, Abdomen, Pelvis/Groin, Limbs, then Back. Assess each region thoroughly using DCAP-BTLS
Examples of things to check for in each region is:
Head: Pupils (2mm in diameter usually), Battle signs
Neck: JUD, TD, Step off
Chest: Open Wounds, Equal Rise/Fall, Lung sounds
Abdomen: Distension, periumbilical, evisceration
Pelvis/Groin: Crepitus (cracking or popping), priapism (painful long lasting erection), incontinence (loss of bladder or bowel control.
Limbs: CSM, Sensation, Circulation, Motor
Back: Step off (disc protruding or broken), exit wounds.
